Fashion Week's Fresh Ideas Inspiration for Jewellery
Fashion Week's Fresh Ideas
For the first time in several seasons, fashion designers seem to have some new ideas (or, at least, new interpretations of old ideas). For spring '09, gone is last year's Old Hollywood drama and the conservative feel of this season. Instead, the runways in New York this week have been awash in vibrant prints, cinched waists, and goddess gowns. Inspirations are all over the map, but the results are beautiful and, dare we think in this economic downturn: fun. Best of all, more designers than ever accessorized their new collections with jewelry that was as bold as the clothes. Collar necklaces, shoulder-dusting earrings, and bold bracelets (cuffs or layered bangles) were among the favorites.
Some of the top trends to remember for spring:
Going to Print: Stripes turned up again and again, and florals made a strong showing, but new takes on tie-dye-like patterns were by far the most popular, from vibrant color mixes to more subtle black-and-white combinations.
Color Splash: Nary a pastel has been seen this Fashion Week. Instead, the focus is on turquoise, bright blue, yellow, and a palate of fiery sunset colors—reds, pinks, and oranges.
Waisted: Silhouettes have a definite focus come spring: The waist, with looks ranging from corset influences to wide belts to cummerbunds and sashes.
Goddess by Night: Eveningwear for spring has a dreamy quality with the soft flowing lines favored by Greek and Roman goddesses. One-shoulder and halter styles are clean and feminine without being overly sexy or sweet.
